Summary Description:


The Director, Power & Utilities – CWPCo provides overarching leadership to the site with a direct reporting relationship up through Billerud North America. This position operates and maintains the power generation and distribution assets to maximize safety, efficiency, and profitability. As a Class A regulated utility, CWPCo electrically serves a diverse customer base including both large industrial customers as well as residential customers.

Profile

Key Accountabilities:

  • Makes safety a priority by communicating, participating and supporting safety efforts, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure the safety and health of all personnel in area of responsibility as related to work activities.
  • Maintain five FERC Projects along Wisconsin River with integrity
  • Provide reliable electrical service to CWPCo customer base
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Public Service Commission Wisconsin (PSCW)
  • Manage utility operation subject to overarching regulator structure (FERC, PSCW Chapter 113, CWPCo Tariffs and Electric Service Rules)
  • Manage CWPCo utility subject to customer electric demand and long-term wholesale purchased power contracts
  • Overall responsibility for P/L, strategic planning and capital execution of CWPCo Utility
  • Supports and champions a culture of continuous improvement including reliability, O&M spend and availability
  • Foster an environment that promotes employee engagement and a proactive approach to workforce development
  • Coach and develop the CWPCo leadership team to function at a high level; focused on continuous improvement and development.
  • Maintain harmonious relations with bargaining unit team members by administering contract provisions and company policies to avoid breach of contract, to ensure conformance to work rules and regulations, administering disciplinary measures when needed.
  • Aligns CWPCo utility strategy and operations with broader Billerud North America energy, sustainability, and business objectives.
  • Leads enterprise-level risk management for utility operations, including reliability, regulatory, environmental, and financial risk.
  • Establishes governance, controls, and performance metrics to ensure regulatory compliance, transparency, and long-term asset integrity.

 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing and leading a utility.
  •  Minimum of 10 years of experience in power generation.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a regulated utility environment, including direct interaction with regulatory bodies (e.g., FERC, PSCW) and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience with capital planning, long-range asset management, and execution of major capital projects within a utility or power generation setting.
  • Experience leading unionized workforces and managing labor relations industrial or utility environment

Required skills:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage all results at a business unit level including safety, budgets including overall P/L, reliability, etc
  • Utility operations or large manufacturing background with strong labor relationship track record
  • Strong understanding of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, including asset reliability, system planning, and outage management.
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory, contractual, and commercial environments while balancing customer, regulatory, and business needs.
